Long Distance Lunch Companions

Several times a week resident Gloria Houser has a lunch date with her daughter Dannie, who lives in Harrisburg, without ever leaving Juniper Village at Lebanon!  Through the miracle of technology (specifically Facebook Messenger), even though they are physically 35 miles apart, they can still enjoy friendly conversations over lunch.  Dannie works mostly from home these days, so she plans her lunchtime for the same time as her mother’s.  Several other residents also have routine times to chat with family members.  Recently, resident Betty Werner talked to her daughter and son-in-law, who live in the midwest, on Facetime for the first time, and she was thrilled.  She smiled and said, “This is really good!”  Another resident received video birthday wishes from one of our volunteers, and yet another keeps up with her friends via Facebook.  We are all thankful for these modern ways to keep in touch with each other during this time of social distancing.
