Mount Joy Keeps the Crows Away with Creative Crafting

The scarecrow has been used by cultures the world over. First recorded, the Egyptians used them to protect wheat fields from flocks of quail. Greek farmers used scarecrows to scare away birds, maintaining a good harvest. They also protected the rice fields of the Japanese. This week at Juniper Village at Mount Joy we designed our own version of the scarecrow to protect our good spirits, chase away the blues and usher in the autumn season. Tiny terra cotta pots adorned with burlap tape created the base. Drawn on facial features and craft eyes set their personalities. Straw and acorns fashioned the hat and topped off this delightful art. Shoo blues, shoo!
